I was sitting at a colocation facility where we have a single rack in August 2024, and the gentleman next to me said “are you the STH guy from YouTube?” That started a conversation, and he was telling me that he worked for a well-known government agency. We were talking about high-capacity SSDs, and he told me they already ordered thousands of them for Q1 2025 since they record a lot of video. The fascinating part of this is that it is becoming easy to sell huge and expensive SSDs as well as smaller and cheaper SSDs, but the midrange is, in many ways, becoming increasingly hard to sell.

61.44TB and AI Clusters

If you want to buy a 61.44TB SSD like the Solidigm D5-P5336 in the second half of 2024, good luck. At least one vendor told us they are sold out for this calendar year. Other vendors have told us they are sold-out for at least two quarters. As the 122.88TB drives were announced, we have heard very strong demand indicators as well.
